Regular exercise and activity are very important when it comes to staying healthy, and why not do so in style?
Whether it’s to boost your own personal confidence, catch the attention of a gym crush, or just replace some worn out athletic wear, buying some new clothes can help inspire you to increase the amount of time you spend exercising.
Workout clothes are also becoming more and more trendy just as casual wear, whether you plan to actually work out or not!
Fashion trends are forever and constantly changing, and it’s no different with sportswear. Just because you’re working out and liable to sweat doesn’t mean you can’t wear something you like. So, if you want to stay on top of things, you’ll want to keep an eye on the trends below.
Matching Sets
One of the most popular women’s sportswear trends, which has been around for a bit but still reigns supreme in 2022, is the matching set. You just can’t go wrong with one.
Matching athletic wear is great for not just the gym, but also just for leisure wear, as it looks stylish and is also— of course —very comfortable! It makes your whole look seem more put together, and you can always mix and match with what you buy if there ever comes a day when you don’t want to be so coordinated.

On the Dona Jo website, you can choose to shop by print, so that you can easily pick out some items that match perfectly. Even if some clothes aren’t specifically made to be matching sets, this aspect of our website helps you see what clothing items will look great together before you make a purchase.
Bright Colors
Though earth and muted tones will always be popular, women’s sportswear trends lately are leaning towards bright, bold colors more and more frequently. For good reason, too— they are very eye-catching, after all.
Brighter colors have also been found to boost the wearers’ mood, which is a great way to keep energy up during a long workout. In addition, wearing bright, happy colors is a general trend in spring and summer, so you can switch to more muted tones when it begins to get cold again, or stick to the bold colors if you really want to catch the eye.

The aforementioned shop by print section of our website will definitely help you to find the bold, statement pieces you may want in order to stay up to date on this year’s trends. As you can see, a lot of the new arrivals at Dona Jo are brightly colored.
Ribbed Fabrics
The color of the fabric is hardly the only thing that matters, however. Specific materials and textures, especially for clothes that you plan to wear while working out, are incredibly important. It needs to be something you feel comfortable in and that’s breathable, and it’s always nice for your workout wear to be stylish, too.
Ribbed fabrics still have plenty of stretch to them and won’t take away from your workout regimen, but they’re a bit more interesting to look at and might work a bit better for when you’re in a rush and can’t change after a workout.
We offer a vast selection on our website, so everyone— no matter their textural preferences —should be able to find athletic or casual wear that works for them, whether it’s ribbed fabric or not.
Full Coverage
Though it might surprise you to hear, a very up and coming trend for women’s sportswear is the one-piece, and we don’t mean bathing suits— though we have a great swimwear collection.
But even for exercise outside of the pool, one-pieces are becoming very popular. Sometimes also referred to as “catsuits” or “workout onesies,” this athletic wear is reminiscent of a jumpsuit— a tank top that meets long pants, all connected — except that it’s skin tight all the way down.

Not only do they allow for impressive ease of movement, they’re very chic, and would work very well in a yoga class. One-piece workout wear isn’t the only trend that involves more coverage, however. We are also beginning to see more of that with sports bras, of which we have a variety.
Sports bras have become increasingly more full coverage this year, to the point where many popular current styles could pass as tank tops or crop tops. Perhaps that’s the whole point. This type of sports bra fits equally well in the gym as on a casual hang out with friends.
Exercise Dresses
A bit of a more unexpected trend, but one that is certainly taking over in 2022 is exercise dresses. One might not immediately think of dresses when they picture women’s sportswear, but they have become increasingly popular this year.
The trend is hardly limited to just dresses, too. Athletic skirts are also on the rise, and for good reason— a flowy skirt allows for more range of motion.
It’s best to have shorts under these dresses, of course, depending on the workout you’re planning to do, but most exercise dresses and skirts have them built in. Skorts are officially making a comeback.
Wearing a dress or a skirt to the gym is also super cute, so you could go right out to lunch or even to work in these clothes and not have anyone be the wiser to your previous activities.
Dona Jo has a vast selection of skirts and skorts to choose from, many of which would make great sportswear. They’re some of the most popular among our customers, and we understand why. There are even skirted leggings for when it’s colder!

Whether you work out all the time or not at all, everyone can benefit from adding more sportswear to their wardrobes— you never know when it might come in handy. With clothes that are both cute and comfortable it’s a no brainer, and you can definitely find both here.
Plus, if you take these trends into account? You’re sure to be sweating in style.
