8 Comfy Loungewear Staples for Your Closet

Working from home is no excuse to wear the same stale sweats you’ve been wearing since you graduated college.

Working from home is no excuse to wear the same stale sweats you’ve been wearing since you graduated college. It’s time for an upgrade. Getting dressed in something that looks good and feels good can help boost your mood. Helping you have a happier and more productive day.

Upgrading your old graphic tee to a fitted long sleeve henley will have you comfortable enough to feel relaxed and look smart enough to hop on that random zoom call. And a new pair of joggers will have you looking much fitter than baggy old sweats.

Even if you only dress casually on the weekends, having these eight comfy loungewear staples in your closet will have you ready to layer up and get cozy.

1. Long Sleeve Henley

Long sleeve henleys are the perfect shirt to dress up your loungewear for a work-from-home day filled with zoom calls. Unlike a basic tee, a long sleeve henley looks almost like a polo without the collar. It’s comfortable and casual enough for everyday wear without looking like it's part of a sweatsuit.

The buttons along the neckline of the long sleeve henley elevate the look, while the comfy cotton fabric is warm enough to keep you comfortable without being too hot. Put it on with your PJ pants to work from home, or hit a cafe in a long sleeve henley and your favorite pair of jeans.

2. Flannel

Nothing is more comfortable than a soft, worn-in flannel shirt. These are perfect to layer over a long sleeve henley or fitted tee once the weather cools off. Not quite as heavy as a jacket, flannels add just the right amount of warmth and style to a casual look.

3. Lounge Shorts

Athletic shorts can be too tight for daily wear, but to sit at your desk, you also don’t want the uncomfortable waistband of denim or chino shorts either. Try simple, sleek lounge shorts in khaki, navy, or hunter green.

The elastic waistband won’t dig in during work hours or while running errands on the weekends. Rather than choosing athletic or sweatsuit material, pick a pair of polyester shorts you can style with a fitted tee or long sleeve henley and wear out in the world.

4. Hoodie

Every closet needs at least one oversized hoodie. It’s easier to get to work in the mornings when you are warm and cozy. Pick a basic color so you can mix and match it with other essentials. If you want a bolder color, choose an earthy green or burgundy that will still be neutral enough to wear with jeans, joggers, or your lounge shorts on a cool summer morning.

5. Crew Neck Sweatshirt

Some days you may not want the extra weight of a hooded sweatshirt. A crewneck can be lighter and look more elevated when paired with the right pieces. Use your polyester lounge shorts with a crewneck sweatshirt for an early walk on the beach with the dog. You’ll look fit, even in your comfy clothes.

6. Fitted Cotton Tee

Tee shirts are one the most versatile items in your closet. You can pair them with any bottoms and wear them to work, exercise, lounge, or dress them up for a night on the town. Don’t settle for ill-fitting and uncomfortable tees. A baggy t-shirt can immediately make you look sloppy.

Find the right fit for your tee shirt and elevate your loungewear. Pick a t-shirt where the shoulder seam ends and where your arm begins. The shirt should fit tightly against your arms and chest without being restrictive or pulling.

Find tee shirts that make you feel good about your figure and flatter your form. A good t-shirt can help you look long and lean or solid and muscular, depending on your body type. When you find a shirt you love, buy one in every color, you can never have enough good tees or long sleeve henleys.

7. Joggers

Joggers are to men what leggings are to women – loungewear you can style to wear beyond the comfort of your couch or the gym. Unlike classic sweats, joggers have a tighter fit and taper off at your ankles.

You can style joggers with a hoodie and keep it casual or dress them up. Roll them up slightly and pair them with classic white sneakers, a long sleeve henley, and a flannel for a casual weekend brunch. Or keep it chill and work-from-home in joggers and a hoodie.

8. Slippers

You don’t want to have to put on your sneakers every time you take out the trash or bring the dog to the backyard. Plus, slippers can help keep your feet warm in the early mornings when you first get up to make your coffee.

A good pair of slippers will protect your feet from cold, hardwood floors. Comfy slides should do the trick if you only wear them in the house. But, if you plan to use them to take the dog for their morning stroll, pick slippers with solid bottoms you can wear, even if it's a bit wet outside.
